Message from the Principal
Emergency Plan
The school conducted an emergency evacuation drill on Thursday September 8.
The drill had several purposes.
Firstly to remind all students of what to do in the event of us needing to evacuate the
premises; second to emphasise that we in Havana do live in a hurricane zone and that
the season for hurricanes has a long time left to run this year; third to make
mention of the fact of International Literacy Day which was September 8 and
to point out how fortunate all the students are to be able to go to school;
fourthly to mention and honour those unfortunate enough to have lost their lives
in Hurricane Katrina in the United States as well as those that died in Cuba when
Hurricane David passed in July and finally to note that for many thousands of children,
their education will be delayed by as much as six months as schools remain closed in
the southern US after the hurricane.
Parent Student Handbooks
The 2005-2006 Parent Student Handbook is available for distribution immediately.
I am hoping that most parents will, for ecological protection reasons, opt to receive an
electronic copy by e Mail.
Please ensure that the school Registrar's Office: office@ish.co.cu has your email address.
If you are unable or unwilling to receive this and other documentation electronically,
please advise the Registrar's Office so that a paper copy can be provided for you.
Please note that in the past the school, for unknown technical reasons, has had difficulty
with electronic communications to local subscribers registered to enet.cu, accept apologies
in advance if this problem prevents you receiving school communications.
The Weekly
Please ensure that the school Registrar's Office: office@ish.co.cu has your email address,
if you wish to receive this publication electronically.
Parent Teacher Association
The P.T.A. invites all parents to attend a social on Thursday September 15 at the school. Note that this is a change from the published date.
Room Parents
Many thanks to those parents that have volunteered to serve as Room Parents.
This is an important point of communication between the teachers and the home in order to allow both sides to take full advantage of what can be offered to the students- it is not too late to offer your help - just contact any PTA Committee member.
The PTA Officers include Rachel Purvis President, Liz van Der Lip, Vice President and Sherry Sewall, Treasurer as well as several other parent and teacher representatives.
Extra Curricular Activities
Began last Monday, September 5.
Please take full advantage of the extensive programme offerings available - it is not too late to sign up!!
Once more, please be aware that if your child(ren) is/are not involved in a sponsored and fully supervised activity - there is no supervision available and so they may not remain on the school playground unsupervised and therefore must be collected at 2.35 p.m.
