Primary Programme

The Primary School Curriculum is:

• For Kindergarten to Grade 5 (11/12 years old)
• Standards based on Learning Outcomes
• Has an independent programme of English
• Has an independent programme of Mathematics IPM (Improving Primary Mathematics) developed in the UK
• Complemented by integrated themed units of the I.P.C. (International Primary Curriculum)
• Has an independent programme of Spanish (Grade 2 to Grade 5 only)

A new programme was adopted for I.S.H. in August, 2003, based on a vision of the future derived from 5 overriding beliefs:

• the world is changing rapidly
• the nature of work is changing
• education must change
• careers are changing
• consistency in education is important

The Cuban Ministry of Education recognises the ISH programmes and grants certificates of equivalency.
