S.E.W. / D.E.A.R.

S.E.W./ D.E.A.R.

S.E.W. (Stop Everything and Write) and D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) were both school created events designed within 2007-2008 to promote reading and writing more within the school. During S.E.W. and D.E.A.R. students have to stop whatever they are doing for twenty minutes and either solidly read or write according to which event is specified. They actually have no specific date on which they are held, but there are at least two session of each per year.

S.E.W. and D.E.A.R. are also used to promote other school celebrations such as Mother Language Day, or International Book Day, or even to promote programs within the school such as the buddy programs in which older students in secondary are paired with a younger student in primary. S.E.W. and D.E.A.R. are usually incorporated as activities into these events and programs, and give students opportunities not only to interact but to appreciate reading and writing more outside the scope of school work.
