International Book Day (also known as World Book and Copyright Day) was created by UNESCO in 1995 to promote reading, publishing and copyright and is celebrated annually on the 23rd of April.
Naturally being a school this is another important event that we recognize, because we educate ourselves not only through teachers but also through the written word. Thus in our school International Book Day also aims to promote students to do reading, to learn how to truly appreciate books, and to have respect for the time and effort it takes to creates books. We celebrate this event in many different ways each year. Often a Book Fair is held at the school where students, faculty and parents can bring old books to swap or sell. On other occasions students have been escorted on field trips to the large book fair in La Habana Vieja to buy to peruse books at their leisure.
