NOTE: We are accepting applications at this time, and until January 18th, 2013

Modified: December 12, 2012

The following positions are available or may become available to take up post in August 2013:

  • Lower School Homeroom Teachers (Grade Levels to be finalised – 3 positions available)

IS Havana offers initial two-year contracts for expatriate teachers. Appointments are subject to an application being made by a supporting Embassy for a visa to be granted by the host country authorities.

There are many complex situations for the school in regard to obtaining support for visas to allow teachers to live and work in Cuba.

It is easier to obtain visa support for candidates with Canadian citizenship, German citizenship or Dutch citizenship. Practically speaking it is not possible to hire US citizens. There are several other citizenships that it is very difficult to arrange visa support for; however, please feel free to make initial enquiries along with submission of the requested documentation.

General Information:

Contracts are initially for two years for expatriate teachers subject to an application for a visa provision being made by a supporting Embassy and granted by the host country authorities. Due to the complicated situation in regard to support for teacher visas, candidates with German citizenship are encouraged to apply while it is practically speaking impossible to hire US citizens.

Lower School Homeroom Teacher positions

The Early Years Section of Lower School covers the three Pre-School grade levels. The curriculum is the Foundation Stage programme of the National Curriculum of England and the Early Years International Primary Curriculum.

The Primary Section of Lower School ranges from the Kindergarten Class [U.K. system Year 1] to Grade 5 [U.K. system Year 6].

Experience of, or familiarity with, the I.P.C. (International Primary Curriculum) provides a candidate with a great advantage as does knowledge of I.P.M. (Improving Primary Mathematics) and experience using a balanced literacy framework to teach to the Literacy Standards of the National Curriculum of England.

Lower School teachers are expected to teach a full range of subjects at the specific grade level and also to co-teach Language Arts. Thus a teacher needs strong language arts skills as they teach to students in two different grade levels.

Important: Please, be aware that IS Havana will never ask or require teacher candidates to send money for either application fees, interview fees, visas, plane tickets or other costs associated with recruitment or moving to Cuba. We will not ask teacher candidates for information related to their personal bank accounts. If you appear to be asked by IS Havana to send money to cover any such or similar costs, you are probably the target of an elaborate scam. Several international schools have recently had their web sites cloned, and candidates have been asked to send large amounts of money. All international candidates are urged to be diligent in investigating potential schools and to use extreme caution during the recruiting process and prior to signing a contract.
